The Best Met Gala Necklaces and Jewelry Moments from the 2023 Red Carpet

Plenty of stars paid homage to the late Karl Lagerfeld at last night’s 2023 Met Gala—but look closer, and you’ll find that many guests chose to make bold statements with their choice of jewelry. Typically a finishing touch to the look, many A-listers chose to make their accessories the focal point. Particularly, there was no shortage of diamonds—some huge and worth millions—on the red carpet, all of which shined and dazzled against the paparazzi flashbulbs.

Dua Lipa, for one, wore Tiffany & Co.’s new Legendary Diamond necklace, set on platinum; It’s over 200 carats and based on the cut of the iconic yellow Tiffany Diamond worn by the likes of Beyoncé and Audrey Hepburn. Rihanna chose Bulgari’s High Jewelry necklace in platinum, complete with five pear diamonds, 118 Akoya cultured pearls, seven pear diamonds, 109 round diamonds, 561 fancy shape diamonds, and pavé-set diamonds to finish it off. Priyanka Chopra also sported Bulgari’s High Jewelry necklace, only hers featured the label’s Bulgari Laguna Blu Diamond, which was loaned by Sotheby’s; The 11.16-carat blue diamond is the largest Bulgari blue diamond to be offered for sale at Sotheby's, and its estimated value is over $25 million (it will be part of a forthcoming Geneva auction later this month).

Micaela Coel, meanwhile, sported gold pieces by Emefa Cole, a jewelry artist and fellow Ghanian. She wore Cole’s SMO Gold headpiece, earrings, and cocktail ring (all of the gold was responsibly sourced in West Africa). Michelle Yeoh donned Cartier’s [Sur]naturel High Jewelry transformable necklace and earrings, made of platinum and diamonds. Anitta even wore Roger Dubuis's Velvet Platinum 38MM watch, valued at a cool $1.4 million.

As for the men, Usher wore an 8-carat white diamond brooch by Lorraine Schwartz, as well as a pearl and white diamond ring. Rami Malek wore Cartier’s Tradition Jabot pin from 1927 (made of platinum, enamel, emeralds, rubies, and diamonds). He also wore a Cartier Tank Louis watch, cufflinks, and an 18-karat white gold ring with diamonds and rubies. Simu Liu donned Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas self-winding watch in steel, valued at $22,500.

The boldest choice of jewelry of the night, however? That would be Lil Nas X: He took jewelry to the extreme when he bejeweled himself in 218,784 round flatback Swarovski crystals, layered over silver body paint applied by the legendary Pat McGrath.
