Gary man sentenced to 20 years in heroin ring

Dec 05, 2023

A Gary man was sentenced to 20 years Thursday for running a heroin ring.

A federal jury convicted Lamont Coleman, 41, in April 2021 of conspiring to distribute heroin, possessing a firearm as a felon, and possessing with intent to distribute heroin. He will also do three years on probation after his release.

Authorities accused Coleman of running the drug operation out of his Gary properties from November 2017 to August 2018 — an apartment building, next door house and connecting courtyard.

Police confiscated guns, heroin, cocaine and $19,000 in cash when executing a search warrant.

The Drug Enforcement Administration and Porter County Multi-Enforcement Group investigated the case.
